Creating Legitimacy as a Coach (Pt. 4) – PROVOKING TRANSFORMATION

A VPN is an essential component of IT security, whether you’re just starting a business or are already up and running. Most business interactions and transactions happen online and VPN

Over the past three days, I had the pleasure to spend time at one of my coaching alma maters in Dubai, the Coaches Training Institute, and serve as an assistant for one of their core coach training modules.

Initially, I was there to reconnect with the Co-Active Model and get in some co-active practice ahead of potentially being invited to Spain for its Front of the Room Leader auditions this summer.

What I ended up noticing – there was something more for me to see, experience, and now share.

When we work with our clients, no matter whether they are corporate or personal clients, we as coaches come from a place of wanting them to be the best versions of themselves – to experience their fullest potential.

Part of that process is enabled by provocation.

When we work with our clients, no matter whether they are corporate or personal clients, we as coaches come from a place of wanting them to be the best versions of themselves – to experience their fullest potential.

Part of that process is enabled by provocation.

And it’s in that provocation I would like to take a deep dive and point your attention toward for without the guided practice and learnings from the stressors evoked by provocation, what will (metaphorically speaking) happen to our muscles?

In Antifragile, Nassim Nicholas Taleb goes into depth the ways in which we deny ourselves the benefits of anti-fragility when we knowingly / unknowingly disengage stressors.

Stressors in a coaching context are those things, which evoke a strong emotion in us, but when confronted, reconciled, and understood – enables a transformational shift.

Looking at the image, Robust stands out as strong, but what’s not as easy to notice is the lack of provocative stressors required to evoke transformation.

When we step into our role as coach, we’re fully aware of when our clients are avoiding or not willing to confront a barrier or hard-to-be-with emotion, so we provoke them.

In our attempts to provoke our clients, it’s not Robust we truly aim for, it’s Anti-Fragile, which is where we can help them unlock transformational experiences.

More to the point, my BIGGER question to you as a coach is how are you remaining true to form in continuously provoking transformation in yourself?

Without experiencing the depths of transformation at a personal level, you will lack the legitimacy to know how to inspire / provoke it for your clients.

So, I leave you with one last inquiry…..

“What are you noticing about the experience you’re provoking for yourself and your clients?”
